Seventh consecutive year of passenger donation collection campaign

1,600 children will benefit from the donation of more than 5 thousand books.

March, 2023. AERIS, interested manager of the Juan Santamaría International Airport (AIJS), is honored to share that the Books For All campaign made possible that this 2023 close to 1,600 low-income children will receive more than 5 thousand textbooks of the four basic subjects (Spanish, mathematics, science and social studies) and English.

“We reaffirm once again our commitment to the Costa Rican educational sector, through a new edition of this successful campaign to collect passenger donations for the purchase of educational books. In this seventh consecutive year of the initiative, the material was donated to the León Cortés Castro School, Santa Rita School, Airport School and La California School,” said Adriana Bejarano, head of Environment, Health and Safety at AERIS Costa Rica.

As part of the selection of the beneficiary schools, we had the support of our partner Asociación Libros para Todos, in order to meet the needs of the schools closest to AIJS.

The official delivery of the didactic material to the schools took place this Thursday, March 22, with the participation of members of our Gente AERIS, staff of the Association and teachers from each school.

“Books for All is an initiative in which converges the determination of those of us who make up AERIS that education is the engine that will ensure a better future for Costa Rica, with our goal of positively impacting our closest circle of influence, as well as the assistance of the passengers of the country’s main air terminal that make these achievements a reality,” added Bejarano.

In the seven years of the campaign, more than 40,000 books have been donated, benefiting 10,000 students.

  • Results of the XVIII edition of the Pro-Children’s Hospital Association Golf Tournament sponsored by AERIS will benefit one and a half million children.
  • The proceeds will be used to purchase two vital signs monitors, four wireless orthopedic drills and a thermo-cycler.

March, 2023. The Orthopedic Services, Hemato-Oncology, the Transplant Unit and the Screening Laboratory of the National Children’s Hospital will receive medical equipment thanks to the $156,808 raised at the XVIII edition of the Pro-Children’s Hospital Association Golf Tournament sponsored by AERIS, which took place this Friday, March 17.

“For the Hospital this event is always a ray of hope, a possibility to better serve the children and families we serve thanks to the helping hand given to us by the golfers, the Association and sponsors. Having this latest technology equipment, efficient and increasingly less invasive effects on children, makes a big difference because it is quality of care and improved response to treatment. Many grateful hearts of patients and families will forever repay them,” commented Dr. Olga Arguedas, Director of the National Children’s Hospital.

It is estimated that with this donation more than one and a half million patients per year will benefit from versatile, efficient and daily needed equipment.

“For AERIS, the interested manager of the Juan Santamaría International Airport, and as part of the philosophy we share with our parent company Grupo CCR, it is key to exceed our contractual obligations and generate a positive impact beyond our daily operations. With this tournament, that disposition derives in benefiting a public that requires it, such as the patients of the National Children’s Hospital; we thank our allies, and in general all those who participated,” said Ricardo Hernandez, general director of AERIS.

“It fills us with joy to confirm that the tournament in benefit of the National Children’s Hospital raised, thanks to the support of so many generous people, the necessary economic resources to support Costa Rican children. The Pro-National Children’s Hospital Association will continue working with great motivation to support the work of the Hospital as we have done for more than 40 years,” added Alejandro Pignataro, president of the Association.

Eighteen editions of commitment to children. In the nearly two decades that the tournament has been held, more than $2 million has been raised for the purchase of medical equipment for this pediatric care center.

JUAN SANTAMARÍA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT CONSOLIDATES ITS POSITION AS THE BEST AIRPORT IN CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

Thursday, 16 March 2023

Juan Santamaría International Airport consolidates its position as the best in Central America and the Caribbean.

  • It was awarded in this way at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023, which recognize the most outstanding air terminals globally.
  • Costa Rica’s main air terminal was also recognized as Best Airport Staff in Central America & Caribbean and The Cleanest Airport in Central America & Caribbean.

March, 2023. Juan Santamaría International Airport (AIJS) was selected for the second consecutive year as the best in Central America and the Caribbean in the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023.

Categorized as the ‘Oscars’ of the airport industry by recognizing the world’s leading terminals, the winners of this edition were officially announced on March 15 in Amsterdam.

“This recognition is the result of the commitment of AERIS and AIJS as the gateway to pure life experiences, to improve the passenger experience, through a manager that goes beyond the management contract concerned and an airport that wants not only to be at the level, but even exceed, the standards of the region,” explained Ricardo Hernandez, General Director of AERIS Holding Costa Rica.

AIJS also received, as in 2022, the award for The Cleanest Airport in Central America & Caribbean, as well as the Best Airport Staff in Central America & Caribbean.

The latter highlights the airport in the region whose customer service in areas such as attitude, friendliness and efficiency is outstanding. Employees in positions such as information desks, security personnel, stores, and food and beverage establishments are the recipients of this honor.

The weight of these awards lies in the fact that passengers from all over the world (from approximately 550 airports) participate in a customer satisfaction survey to decide the winners.

In the case of this edition, the questionnaire was completed by passengers of more than 100 nationalities between August 2022 and February 2023, on topics such as:

  • Airport entry and exit, ease of access.
  • Variety, efficiency and prices of public transportation
  • Play areas and amenities for children
  • WiFi services
  • Comfort, ambience and design of the terminals
  • Cleanliness, flooring, seating and public areas of terminals
  • Terminal seating
  • Immigration service: system and waiting time
  • Immigration service: staff attitude
  • Friendliness of airport staff
  • Perception of security standards

“We take these awards also as a reaffirmation that working articulately and together is key, which is a philosophy we share with our parent company CCR Group. Both through a staff that does an extraordinary job to provide a service under the highest quality standards, as well as the commitment of all those who are part of the airport community, public and private sector,” added Hernandez.

The World Airport Awards began in 1999, when Skytrax launched its first worldwide airport customer satisfaction survey, and more than 20 years later, they are considered a benchmark of quality for the airport industry.

March 11, 2023.  From this Saturday, March 11, passengers transiting through the Juan Santamaría International Airport (AIJS) have a new option to travel to the city of Denver in the United States, thanks to the opening of the seasonal route inaugurated by Southwest Airlines.

The route will be in effect from March 11 until September 2, only on Saturdays and with an itinerary that will depart from Denver at 7:00 a.m. to Costa Rica, where it will arrive at 1:10 p.m.; and will return to the U.S. city the same day.

“Once again, the teamwork between AERIS, as airport manager, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) and the airline, has been essential to expand the travel offer to people who transit through the country’s main air terminal. We are grateful to Southwest, since the inauguration of this route comes at a key moment between both countries, since it is high season in Costa Rica and we are close to the mid-year school vacation period in the United States, where families seek destinations like ours for their trips, and at AIJS we are ready to be the gateway to pure life experiences”, said Erick Barboza, Director of Business Development of AERIS.

This is the company’s third route to Juan Santamaria International Airport, complementing the services already provided to and from Baltimore (BWI) and Houston (HOU) also in the United States; and adds to the offer for passengers from the SJO where Costa Rica is connected to 35 destinations around the world through 25 international commercial airlines and two domestic airlines.

IMPLEMENTATION OF TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES IN AIRPORTS ARRIVED IN COSTA RICA WITH AIRPORT DAY

Thursday, 9 March 2023

AERIS was the designated organizer by the Airports Council International (ACI).

Implementation of technological advances in airports came to Costa Rica with Airport Day

  • For the first time in the country, the ACI Airport Day Pura Vida was held, which brought together more than 100 national and international guests.
  • World leaders shared their experiences in cybersecurity, biometrics and new technologies to streamline airport processes and improve the passenger experience.

March, 2023. Costa Rica hosted for the first time the ACI Airport Day Pura Vida, an event that brings together leading airport industry executives, civil aviation authorities, suppliers, consultants and international experts from other airports in the adoption and incorporation of new technologies.

“Costa Rica’s airport sector is already a reference in the region, deserving of multiple awards. As part of this continuous development through technology, ACI presents itself in the country as an ally in this process, making itself available to the operators and authorities of the sector through our global experience and being the voice of the airports in the world,” said Rafael Echevarne, executive director of ACI-LAC.

The logistics consisted of different blocks of discussion and presentation of technological advances to streamline airport processes, as well as to provide an agile and innovative experience to passengers.

The topics were addressed by more than 100 guests, including international specialists and local authorities such as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC), the Technical Council of Civil Aviation (CETAC), the Directorate of Immigration, among others.

“We can assure that the first ACI Airport Day Pura Vida was a success, in which we appreciate the participation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), government authorities from Uruguay, Aruba, Dominican Republic, United States, Germany, among others, as well as experts in airport technology who shared their valuable knowledge,” said Ricardo Hernandez, general director of AERIS, interested manager of the Juan Santamaria International Airport and organizer of this milestone.

High-standard forum. The event was held at the Convention Center and began at 9 am with opening remarks by Ricardo Hernandez of AERIS, followed by Rafael Echevarne, executive director of ACI-LAC, Allison Aymerich, president of CETAC and Marlen Luna, director of the General Directorate of Immigration and Foreigners.

Topics such as the implementation of automated border control systems and an analysis of the latest developments in solutions for this area by the ICAO were discussed.

Success stories were also presented on the implementation of biometric processes in the airports of the United States, Montevideo, Aruba, Punta Cana and Narita, as well as the experiences of the airports of Quito and Munich in cybersecurity and the implementation of technology in different processes, respectively.

Among the international speakers who covered these contents were:

  • Santiago Andrade, director of Information Technology and Telecommunications at Corporación Quiport.
  • Agustín Arellano, president and CEO Houston Airport System
  • Federico Cabrera, manager of Operations and Passenger Experience at Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay
  • Camilo Cárdenas, senior manager, Business Development and Government, SITA
  • Angeline Flemming, Director of Health, Safety & Security, Queen Beatrix International Airport
  • Marcelo García, senior director of InterVISTAS Consulting
  • Daniel Gumberger, senior consultant Munich Airport
  • Andrew Hoo, acting director of Immigration Services Aruba
  • Pablo Jury, Marketing & Channel manager for Latin America at Thales
  • Christine Kaarsbaan-Leo, Sustainability & Health manager Queen Beatrix International Airport
  • Larry Panetta, Director of Biometric Entry – Exit Transformation for U.S. Customs and Border Protection
  • José María Peral, Regional Officer, Aviation Security and Facilitation, ICAO
  • Sebastian Pinchinatti, Business Development Director, Amadeus
  • Joan Rojas, partner at ALG
  • Alejandro Ruiz, Senior Commissioner of the National Directorate of Migration in Uruguay
  • Rafael Alberto Smith, Director of Landside Operations & Cargo at Punta Cana International Airport
  • Floreal Suárez, director of the Specialized Airport and Civil Aviation Security Corps (CESAC) in the Dominican Republic.

The culmination of the event corresponded to a panel called: Costa Rica…A look into the future, where the next steps of the industry in the country were discussed with the participation of representatives of Immigration, DGAC, CETAC, the International Airlines Association, the International Air Transport Association and AERIS.

Good country reputation.

The fact that Costa Rica was designated as the venue for the event confirms the confidence in the work carried out by the industry in our country.

For example, the Juan Santamaría Airport was chosen as the best in Central America and the Caribbean in the World Airport Awards 2022, and was also recognized as one of the best in Latin America and the Caribbean in the category of between 5 and 15 million passengers as part of the “Airport Services Quality Awards”.

It is also evidence of the potential that industry players see for our country. This is because ACI-LAC, the regional office of this important association of airport operators that made this selection, represents more than 325 airports in 34 countries, which manage 95% of commercial air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“Although during a visit last year ACI specialists highlighted the operational security of the Juan Santamaría International Airport, at AERIS we will continue to focus on providing greater passenger comfort, improving service and processing through innovations such as web-check in, use of kiosks, immigration procedures through biometrics, among others,” said Juan Belliard, Director of Operations and Security of AERIS.
